Established in Australia since 1990 and made by a piper for pipers, the Gilmour Reed is handcrafted from the finest quality cane and materials available in order to produce a full bright sound which is combined with a robust and vibrant tone. It is because of these inherent qualities that the Gilmour Reed is played by Soloists and Pipe Bands worldwide.

With an established tradition of using only the finest cane available, Gilmour reeds are hand-crafted from quality imported Spanish cane. Because of the unique climate and soil properties in which it is grown and harvested, Spanish cane has been used for generations by Scottish reed-makers and is famous for producing reeds with the above-mentioned inherent characteristics.

The cane used in the manufacturing process is personally selected. Every reed is not only hand finished, but also tested for pitch, scale, vibrancy and tonal quality prior to dispatch. When advised and where possible, reeds will be tested in your make of chanter (or closest to) for your ease of reeding. Please note that the Gilmour reed is mainly designed for the modern pitched chanter evolving over the last 20 years.

The Gilmour Reed  is based upon the time honoured  'Rule Of 3'  pattern, by which all aspects of the reed's dimensions are inter-related with each other. It has also been continually updated to suit increasing pitch and evolving modern chanter design.  The Gilmour Reed is easily recognisable world-wide by the Red Kangaroo and Gilmour name stamp on the blades.
